Memorable Moments in the History of Leatherhead Parish Church
This event is on 18 Sep 2019 4:00pm
Parish Church Hall, Church Road , KT22 8BD
Have you got stories, personal recollections, or photos relating to Leatherhead Parish? Through People Power we are aiming to bring our heritage story up to date, as you share your memorable moments and family connections with your local church.
The medieval church of St Mary & St Nicholas is the oldest building in Leatherhead and has been a focal point of community life for nearly 1,000 years. While we are repairing and enhancing the church building to make it fit for worship and community usage in the 21st century, we are also investing in new and exciting ways to tell our heritage story better.
As well as presenting the significant architectural features of this Grade II* listed building, and the history of some of the ancient artefacts and historic people associated with the church, we want to include the stories of local people right up to the present day.
You or your ancestors may have been baptised, married or buried here; sung in the choir; rung the bells, performed in a nativity play; cleaned or tidied the churchyard; or something more unusual that we just haven’t thought of! This is your opportunity to put all this history on our map for posterity and create a lasting legacy. So, come along, see what we discover, tell us what interests you, and get involved. Activities and refreshments will be available throughout the event, so you can stay as long (or as short) as you like!
